After reading the book ACRES OF DIAMONDS by Russell Conwell, I am convinced we are all leaving the diamond mines in our own backyards as we travel around the world looking for larger diamonds, when in fact the diamonds we seek are found within us and our hometown, from whence we came. Therefore, we are calling the podcast, #IAMRIVIERABEACH.
As a native resident representing District 3 in Riviera Beach and current grant writer, Councilwoman Shirley Lanier is dedicated to community development, economic self-sufficiency, and job creation in the city of Riviera Beach. She brings to the Council her 30+ years of experience in strategic planning and implementation, housing advocacy, youth service programs and community sustainability. Using her extensive experience in community service, Councilwoman Lanier has successfully implemented a broad range of projects to include jobs for returning citizens, protection of the city’s wetlands, and crime prevention programs to improve public safety.
Her ultimate goal is to partner with community stakeholders and residents who have not historically been included in the conversation to identify sustainable solutions for Riviera Beach. She believes citizens must be actively engaged in the political process because they are directly impacted by the decisions made by the Council. Ms. Lanier envisions the residents and the City Council working together to move all of Riviera Beach towards Economic Development and Social Sustainability.

Today's Guest: Mr. Terrence Davis
As a native of Palm Beach County, Mr. Davis is extremely proud of the opportunity to serve you as your next State Representative. As a former local elected official he understands the challenges that our local communities face. For more than a decade, Mr. Davis has served the people of Palm Beach County. As a former councilman, he has worked with many of our State Representatives and Senators to push positive legislation, while also advocating for funding of local projects. Additionally, he graduated from Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University. Therefore, he knows Tallahassee and he knows what it takes to get the job done for District 94.
Mr. Davis promises to fight for the issues that are important to the community. For example, he believes that a woman should be able to make decisions regarding her own body. Additionally, Mr. Davis feels it’s important that we take action to make sure that we decrease property insurance while making sure that all Floridians have the ability to pay for housing.

Today's Guest: Shed Lang
Mr. Lang moved to Riviera Beach in 1986 and settled in Monroe Heights. Most of his best memories occurred while living in this city. He realized the potential early on and knew He wanted to open a business one day. He didn’t know what he wanted to do, but he knew that he wanted to be here.
He worked for AT&T for nearly 20 years, and during that time, He had an opportunity to travel and visit many cities across the country. One in particular that fascinated him was Tulsa, Oklahoma. He heard about the 1921 riots that decimated a thriving black community but was hopeful after seeing what that community had done to turn things around. He visited a plaza where it was predominantly black-owned. The parking lot was packed, and the businesses were booming. He thought- “why not in Riviera Beach?”. The demographics were very similar, but we lacked business opportunities. He plans to meet with local black-owned businesses to start the Build Back Black Wall Street Initiative.
After retiring in December 2021, He decided to be his own boss. He was done with the corporate world, saying it wasn’t for him. The same energy He put into making AT&T money, he felt that he could do the same for himself.

Today's Guests: Mr. Calloway and Mr. Williams
Mr. Dan W. Calloway has served as the Athletic Director of the Youth Recreation of Palm Beach County since its founding in 1965. His love of all sports began early in life and led him from the sandlots of Riviera Beach to the Pittsburgh Pirates farm camp. After returning to Palm Beach County, his love for sports helped him mold the lives of thousands of young people through mentoring and coaching for the past forty-eight years. Many of the young people that he mentored went on to become professional athletes. He always tried to impress upon the young people with whom he worked the importance of becoming responsible, contributing citizens who give back to their communities. He believes that if he can keep these young people involved in sports, and other activities that they will not turn to negative street influences.
Artie J. Williams has had many accomplishments in life, but none more important than being a part of M.A.M.A, Inc. founded in memory of his nephew Torrey Donnell Manuel. Artie knows firsthand about the violence that has claimed the lives of many of our young people, so he vows to fight to prevent another mother from suffering the loss of a child to senseless violence.
